Winter has arrived in Canmore and it has been snowing off and on for the last week! It snowed a lot on Thursday so by Friday morning there was a few inches of snow on the ground and the temperature was -13. The team was supposed to have a roller ski technique session but obviously that had to be cancelled.
The training options were limited to running or skiing so Sara and I decided to be adventurous and seek out some skiing. We drove to one of the golf courses in town. There was enough snow on the grass for good skiing and there was also a paved cart path that we followed. Dan Roycroft was there before us and had made a 7 minute loop around the golf course. We skied on that for a little while but then we ventured further afield to make things more interesting. It felt great to be on snow again and it was a fun morning! Dan also made a video of the skiing that you can watch here.
The snow guns have being working hard making snow at the Nordic Center so hopefully we'll have a loop up there soon. We may be in trouble if it warms up because the roads in town were all sanded after the snowstorm which will make roller skiing very dangerous even if the ice and snow melts.
